Visiting a foodbank

You will be warmly welcomed by the Rawmarsh Foodbank team to discuss your needs and prepare your food parcel.

“The volunteers at the foodbank were so lovely, they listened to me and made me feel human again. It was the first place I didn’t feel judged.”

We know that crisis can strike anyone and we also understand how difficult it can be to think about walking through a foodbank door. That’s why a Rawmarsh Foodbank team member aims to offer a warm welcome to everyone who comes to the foodbank.

You will be treated with compassion, dignity, kindness and a listening ear.

When you arrive you will be given a number which means you will not lose your place in the queue. You are then free to make yourself a drink, look at the extras rack that has items not usually included in the food parcel and use the facilities.

Then you will be welcomed to our reception desk, where one of the team will check the details on your voucher. Your foodbank voucher will be exchanged for three days of emergency food. We want to make sure that we give you the right food to meet your needs.

Meeting your needs

Over a hot drink and a biscuit, one of the Foodbank team will sit with you and go through a list of items that can make up your food parcel. We try to offer as much choice as we are able.

Also please do let them know if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies, for example, gluten free, halal or vegetarian.

Preparing your food

Our warehouse team will pack your food parcel into supermarket carrier bags. If you prefer to bring your own bags those can be used instead. They will then bring your parcel out to you.

Practical guidance and support

The Rawmarsh Foodbank team will take the time to listen and support you. They are specially trained to know about local services and offer practical guidance so that you have access to the right support, helping you to break out of crisis. There is also opportunity to talk to a Citizens Advice advisor, who will be able to discuss things with you in more depth.
